After much investigating on what brands of coatings and paints are available we ended up with Dick's preferred choice, Altex Yacht & Boat Paints.
We also had Altex Paints recommended to us by Cairns Coatings, a major supplier of coatings and paints to all industries in the North Queensland region and who kindly organised our Altex paints supply for us.
And if you think one the best marine paint brands in the business are also the most expensive, then you are in for a very pleasant surprise.
Altex Paint on the Commemorative 50th Anniversary Trailer Sailer
No matter how good the build it's the quality of the paint that is not only seen first but is also the first line of defence against the elements. Its a make or break component of any boat and we certainly needed to get this right for a little yacht being built to celebrate 50 years of the trailer sailer in Australia.
I am very genuinely impressed with how things turned out using Altex paints. Take a look at the last image on our Construction - Painting the Hull section, and keep in mind that is a photo of the reflection on a dry surface, the paint is not wet. It blows me away.
Despite some of the fastest yachts in the world being coated with Altex coating and paint products, their range is just as at home protecting all types and sizes of ordinary pleasure craft such as small yachts like trailer sailers, dinghys, runabouts and sleek power boats.
If you are building a boat, reconditioning one or just want to re-paint your pride and joy and you want an absolutely superb level of protection and finish and all achievable at a reasonable cost then I highly recommend taking a good look at the Altex range.
Colour Your Boat
Have a play on the Altex website in a section that allows you to colour your boat live.
The colours in the little program are only the standard colour range and do not represent the full depth of colour choices available, but its a heap of fun all the same ...
